When the second column was disassembled the base ring (which was still in good condition) was reinstalled on the first base. A fiberglass mold was then created from the completed profile. This photo shows the mold strike installed in four quarter sections and glassed over the second column. This created the same profile as the original but in fiberglass. We took this approach as the base rings were not obtainable and would have been unrealistic to fabricate from scratch. This approach allowed the columns to be completed in materials that will hold up to the elements for a very long time. |
