The compression block had dry rot and ants.  The original ring was almost completely disintegrated.  The weight of the porch caused the column base to be crushed.

The porch was jacked up to level.  The column tube was split into two halves and removed.  A new pressure treated 4 x 6 beam was installed, anchored top and bottom with the base of the beam floating on an adjustable galvanized metal bolt.

The rotten wood was removed from the bottom of the column.  The hollow column was then reinstalled over the new beam.  A new pressure block was built out of pressure treated lumber.

This process was repeated for the opposite column.
